🔑 Renting

What do I need to rent an e-bike?+
Just bring your passport and a debit or credit card to our Redfern shop. A refundable bond secures the rental and you can ride away the same day.
What's the minimum rental period?+
You can rent flexibly — the longer you commit, the lower your weekly rate. See our rental plans or message us for the best option.
What's included with my rental?+
Every rental includes a helmet, bike lock, battery lock, charger, phone charger, delivery bag and free maintenance — everything you need to start riding.
Do I need to be a delivery rider to rent?+
Not at all — our e-bikes are for everyone: commuters, students and delivery riders alike.
Are e-bikes suitable for beginners or older riders?+
Yes — e-bikes are easy and comfortable to ride. The motor does much of the work, so they're great for beginners and older riders. Come in for a test ride.
Can I take the e-bike on the train?+
Yes — bikes are welcome on Sydney trains, so you can combine train and e-bike for longer trips. Our shop is a short walk from Redfern station too.
How do I return my rental bike?+
Please give us at least 2 weeks' notice before returning. Return the bike with the battery charged to at least 80% (or a $10 recharge fee applies) and reasonably clean (a $30 cleaning fee applies if the bike or bag is returned very dirty). If you end before your minimum period, the remaining rent may still apply. Just message us to arrange your return.
What do the Gold & Platinum protection plans cover?+
Both are optional weekly add-ons. Gold ($10/week) covers maintenance — free servicing, brake pads, chain & gear adjustments, motor & battery health check, same-day priority, plus free repair of any broken part. Platinum ($20/week) adds theft protection, reduced liability and GPS recovery. If theft cover is used, an excess applies (battery or frame only $200, both $300; lost keys are not covered, $25). Note: these plans cover our own products — they are not comprehensive insurance.

🔋 Battery & Charging

How long does the battery last on a charge?+
We offer battery options for every shift: around 6–8 hours, 8–10 hours, or 10–12 hours of riding. The right one depends on how far you ride each day — we'll help you choose.
What is the Battery Swap Station?+
Our Swap & Go station lets you drop your empty battery and grab a fully-charged one in under a minute — no downtime waiting to charge. Swapping is a paid add-on for Tech E-Bike renters: $40/week for unlimited swaps, or $10 for a single swap.
How do I charge the battery?+
A charger is included with every bike — just plug it in at home or work. For zero downtime, use our Battery Swap Station instead.
Are the batteries safe and certified?+
Yes — our batteries are certified and our bikes are EN 15194 compliant & NSW certified. Battery safety is a legal priority in NSW and we take it seriously.

🔁 Rent-to-Own

How does Rent-to-Own work?+
You pay weekly like rent, and at the end of your plan the bike is yours to keep. Pick the pace that suits you — most riders choose 12 weeks. Learn more.
Do I actually own the bike at the end?+
Yes — once your plan is complete, the e-bike is 100% yours with no more payments.
Can I choose a new or a used bike?+
Both are available. Brand-new bikes come with the latest features and warranty; quality ex-rental bikes are fully checked and a more affordable way to own sooner.

🛒 Buying

Are your e-bikes road-legal in NSW?+
Yes — every bike we sell is EN 15194 compliant and carries the required NSW compliance tag. From 1 March 2029 only EN 15194-certified e-bikes will be allowed on NSW roads, so you're future-proofed.
Which bike is best for food delivery?+
Our cargo bikes are the go-to for delivery riders — heavy-duty frames, big loads and long-range batteries. Message us and we'll match you to the right model.
Do you deliver or ship bikes?+
Yes — we ship Australia-wide, straight to your door, or you can collect free from our Redfern shop. Message us for a shipping quote to your postcode.
Do the bikes come with a warranty?+
Yes — new bikes come with a 12-month manufacturer warranty. What it covers varies by brand — it is listed on the product page for that bike and on the warranty card that comes with it. We service everything in-house at Redfern.
Can I test ride before buying?+
Absolutely — come by 153 Redfern Street for a test ride, or message us to book a time.
What is your return & refund policy?+
Faulty products are covered by the manufacturer warranty and your rights under the Australian Consumer Law — bring it in and we'll make it right. For change-of-mind returns, please contact us first; these are handled case by case and the item must be unused and in original condition. Custom, clearance or ex-rental items may not be returnable. Message us and we'll talk you through it.

🔧 Repairs & Service

Do you repair all e-bike brands?+
Yes — we service and repair all e-bike brands, not just the ones we sell.
Do you offer mobile repairs?+
Yes — our mobile mechanic comes to your home, work or roadside and fixes your bike on the spot, so you don't lose a day. Book a repair.
Are your repair prices all-inclusive?+
Yes — every price on our list includes the part, the labour and GST. No hidden costs. See repair prices.
How fast is a repair?+
Most common repairs are done the same day. For bigger jobs or special parts, we'll give you a clear timeframe upfront.

💳 Payments & Bond

How much is the bond (deposit)?+
The bond depends on your plan (from $200) and is fully refundable at the end of your rental, minus any charges for damage or unpaid fees.
How do I pay?+
We accept card payments (Stripe) for rentals, and card or in-store payment (Square) for one-off purchases and bonds.
Are there late payment fees?+
Yes — if a rental payment is overdue: $10 (1 day), $15 (2–4 days), $20 (5+ days). Keeping payments on time keeps your rental active.
What happens if my bike is stolen?+
Message us on WhatsApp within 12 hours and file a police report (required). Without theft cover, replacement costs apply — $800 if only the battery or frame is taken, or $1,500 if both. Our optional Platinum plan covers theft, so you'd only pay a small excess instead.

🛡️ Legal & Safety (NSW)

Do I have to wear a helmet?+
Yes — in NSW it's the law to wear an approved bicycle helmet (Australian Standard AS/NZS 2063) whenever you ride. A helmet is included with every rental.
Are your e-bikes legal to ride in NSW?+
Yes. In NSW, legal e-bikes are power-assisted pedal cycles: a motor up to 250W that assists while you pedal and cuts out at 25 km/h (EN 15194 pedelec standard). All our bikes meet this and carry the NSW compliance tag. From 1 March 2029, only EN 15194-certified e-bikes may be used on NSW roads.
Where can I ride an e-bike?+
You can ride on roads, bike lanes and shared paths. In NSW, riders 16 and over must not ride on footpaths (unless a sign allows it or you're supervising a child under 16). Always follow the road rules.
Do I need lights?+
Yes — when riding at night or in poor light you must have a white light at the front, a red light at the rear and a red rear reflector. We stock lights if you need them.
Do I need a licence or registration?+
No — compliant e-bikes (power-assisted pedal cycles) don't require a licence or registration in NSW. Just follow the bicycle road rules.
Do I need insurance?+
Our rental cover protects Tech E-Bike's own products only — it's not comprehensive insurance. Third-party damage, your belongings and personal injury are not covered. We strongly recommend arranging your own personal health and liability cover before you ride.
This is general information, not legal advice. For full current rules, check Transport for NSW.
